2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Smiths Station completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Smiths Station finished sixth in Class 7A region two with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Smiths Station has gone a combined 37-27. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 7A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Smiths Station has managed to compile a record of 137-131. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 7A and 172nd in the AHSAA. Jason Dukes was relieved of his head coaching duties at the end of the 2015 football season at Smiths Station. His two teams finished with a combined 11-9 record but did not reach the post season after either season. Prior to arriving at Smiths Station, Dukes served as a head coach in Georgia at Alpharetta high school for five years with a 43-21 record. Adam Fossett resigned as the head football coach at Childersburg to accept the same position at Smiths Station after four seasons at the school. His teams went a combined 23-21 and 1-3 in the postseason playoffs. His last team at Childersburg finished 2-8 which was the most losses by any team in his eight year career at Winterboro and Childersburg. His overall record stands at 53-36 and 3-6 in the playoffs. Coach Fossett's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 53-36 (59.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Fossett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship. The Smiths Station Panthers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2016 season. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 54-36 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 7A and 41st in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. Unfortunately, Smiths Station finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Panthers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Harris County GA on Friday, August 19 at Panther Stadium. Smiths Station and Harris County GA have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-5-0 record against Harris County GA. They last met in 2005 with Harris County GA winning by a score of 28-27. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
